Wapping broadside “Rolling down Wapping” c.1840. Original broadside on the subject of Ratliffe Highway, Wapping (here Radcliffe Highway.) A song sung by seamen, who would have visited the ‘drinking dens’ of Wapping. A similar song was collected by Ralph Vaughn Williams, being sung by Mr Howard of Kings Lynn, in 1905 (the words being somewhat different in his version.) I myself heard this ballad, mostly as here recorded, being sung by a friend, Ewan MacColl, in the 1970’s. A small, but rare item. Paper size 10 x 3.5 inches.
