Walton Castle Suffolk antique print. Walton Castle was a Saxon Shore Fort in the Roman province of Britannia. The fort was reused by the Normans who used it as the bailey for a castle. It stood 98 feet above sea level but was destroyed by coastal erosion in the 18th century. It was located in the village of Walton, Suffolk, now part of Felixstowe. Original copper-plate engraved antique print from 'Antiquities of England and Wales’ by Francis Grose, dated in the plate 9th. September, 1786. Paper size approx. 10.75 x 8 inches. Engraved area approx. 6 x 5 inches. Tightly trimmed at the bottom (see scan) otherwise excellent condition.
