Merdon Castle. The earliest references to Merdon Castle date from the late 12th century; Bishop of Winchester Henry de Blois built a manor house called Merdon Castle (Merden in this print,) within the parish of Hursley, Hampshire, in 1138. 

Original copper-plate engraved print from ‘The Antiquities of England and Wales’ by Francis Grose, dated in the plate 20th. August, 1785. Paper size approx. 11 x 7.5 inches. Shadows do not appear on the original print. Excellent condition. A rare item.
