Christchurch Castle Dorset formerly Hampshire

Christchurch Castle, Hampshire. Christchurch Castle is now located in Dorset, although historically, it was in the county of Hampshire. It was constructed in the late 11th century to protect the town’s and river access to the interior of Wessex. It was built inside the Saxon fort whose walls were probably used to build the castle mound or motte. Very little of the castle remains. Antique copper-plate engraving of Christ’s Church Castle, Hampshire (now Dorset.) Dated in the plate Jan 28; 1784 . Size of engraved area approx 5x6ins. Guaranteed over 200 years old.
