Mato-Tope (Four Bears), a Mandan Chief noted for his leadership and his friendship with the artist Karl Bodmer, he died of smallpox in 1837. Original hand-coloured engraving by William H. Lizars taken from Charles Hamilton Smith's 'The Natural History of the Human Species,' 1852 edition. A rare antique print. Note: Price reduced due to tear mid-left of print (see scanned image.)
