Slave ship captured by Royal Navy's 'West Africa Squadron' off the coast of Congo. An original page from 'The Illustrated London News' reporting on the night chase and capture by HMS Alecto of the American slave ship Windward carrying 600 slaves, of whom 149 died due to being "hastily shipped in so small a vessel." The vessel was taken as a 'prize' to St. Helena; she being the seventh slaver taken by Alecto "in the last two months."

Over 1000 Royal Navy personnel lost their lives serving with the West Africa Squadron, which freed over 150,000 slaves being transported across the Atlantic Ocean.
