HMS Northumberland attempted launch into the River Thames 1866 antique print. Original double-page woodblock engraving published in 'The Illustrated London News' 14th. April 1866. Launched from the Scott Russell's 'Millwall Iron Works.' Now a residential area, it is known as Burrell's Wharf after the paint company that later occupied the site.
A busy Thames side scene with steam tugs assisting and crowds to the right watching the attempted launch. The buildings to the left of the scene, together with a chimney stack, have been preserved as has the slipway where Isambard Kingdom Brunell's 'Great Eastern' was launched.
