Devonport Dockyard launch of HMS Avenger a paddle-wheel frigate in 1845. Her engines were fitted at Deptford Dockyard, on the River Thames, before returning to Devonport for ‘fitting out’ and commissioning. On a passage from Gibraltar, she ran aground on the Sorelli Rocks off the Island of Galitand, near Malta, and was wrecked. Antique print published 1845.
