Black Friars, Newcastle-upon-Tyne was a friary in Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, England. The Black Friars (here described as Black Fryers) are more properly known as the Order of Preachers or as the Dominican Order, they are a mendicant Catholic religious order founded in France and approved by Pope Honorius III Antique copper-plate engraving dated in the plate 28 Dec 1784. Size of engraved area approx. 5 x 6 inches. Shadows on the scan do not appear on the original print!
