Linnet and Canary Mules. Original chromo-lithograph by Vincent Brooks Day & Son, printed for Cassell & Company’s ‘The Illustrated Book of Canaries and Cage-Birds,’ published 1878. Illustrated birds include the Stevens' Mule, Spence's Mule and Dark Mule. Paper size approx. 10.5×8 inches. Nice clean Victorian print.
Mules were popularly bred in the Victorian Era as hybrids of British Finches and Canaries. These sterile mules were both good-looking and good singers.
